World Health Organization (WHO)

Committee Description

​

Founded in 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) is an operating specialized agency within the United Nations sagacious towards promoting safe health, informing global health matters, and improving quality of life on an international scale. Through values, infrastructure, international cooperation, WHO aims to combat issues regarding modern health from process to progress. Delegates are encouraged to debate areas of utmost importance on a social, political, and economic level in regards to healthcare management. Moreover, delegates should be able to discuss and implement viable solutions responding towards pressing threats imposed on the healthcare society. Through a balance of perspectives, variety of ideologies, and collective leadership, delegates must be able to obtain a strong comprehension of evident inequalities and the fundamentals of global healthcare. The World Health Organization is structured to unite nations, coordinate health emergency responses, and rectify inequalities that compromise good health service. WHO recognizes the sensitivity and distress of the presented topics; thus ensures great care in handling any/all of such topics shall they arise.

Disarmament and International Security (DIESEC)

Committee Description

​

 

The United Nations General Assembly First Committee, most commonly referred to as the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), was formed in 1945 alongside the establishment of the United Nations. As the first of the six United Nations main committees in the General Assembly, DISEC comprises 193 member nations and meets annually to address challenges that jeopardize international safety and security. DISEC seeks to encourage transparency and cooperation between countries through constructive debates, tackling matters such as disarmament, arms control, and non-proliferation. In this committee, delegates must employ critical and creative problem solving skills to develop effective solutions, and through collaboration and teamwork, delegates will construct reliable policies to ensure the longevity of global peace.

Committee on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)

Committee Description â€‹

The Committee on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) at MHSMUN invites delegates to the forefront of global discourse on the intersection of science, technology, and sustainable development. As a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council, CSTD plays a crucial role in formulating high-level advice and policy recommendations. Delegates in CSTD will navigate the complexities of our rapidly advancing digital era, addressing both the celebratory aspects of technological progress and the potential implications and harms. This committee serves as a focal point for system-wide follow-up to the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), emphasizing equity and sustainability. Drawing on the expertise of national governments and insights from civil society, CSTD at MHSMUN aims to bridge information gaps, enhance public trust, and safeguard the well-being of vulnerable populations. Join us in shaping a comprehensive framework that navigates the challenges and opportunities presented by evolving technologies for the betterment of our global community.

LuxLeaks

Committee Description â€‹

​

When supposed movement in an underground economy sparked conspiracy. Tax dumping, avoidance, and evasion were becoming more and more apparent throughout various corporations from around the world. Citizens of this capitalist society were starting to bat an eye towards these privatized companies. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, conducted an investigation throughout Luxembourg in which the  disclosure of a confidential reserve of concealed tax agreements throughout multinational corporations thundered through the global economy. These agreements, approved by Luxembourg authorities, provided tax-relief for more than 350 companies from the globe. But, let’s take it a few years back to when the revelation first broke out. Delegates will be taken back to the start of the scandal and find solutions to the LuxLeaks scandal. The committee will have continuous updates to further the understanding of the situation. It is up to delegates to find out who’s right, who’s wrong and ensure the security of economic growth within the EU. It is the job of the delegates to find the truth, once and for all!

Riordanverse: The Trojan War

Committee Description â€‹

 

The power of gods is astronomical. With the fall of the Titans and the Giants, the demigods of the Western world are faced with a new problem: Zeus’s Wrath. Angry that he is constantly snubbed by his own progeny, Zeus has released the Eidolons on Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter to reenact the bloodiest war in Ancient Greek history: The Trojan War. Campers are possessed by the spirits of the key players in the fall of Troy, with Helen running off to Camp Jupiter with Paris, and the Greeks preparing to avenge their honour. Delegates are placed at the very beginning of the Trojan War, before Briseis was captured by Achilles, before Iphigenia was slaughtered by Agamennon, and before the duel between Hector and Ajax the Great takes place. Those with peaceful Eidolons have gathered for a roundtable to find a way to enforce peace before history repeats itself and the Camps are reduced to naught but rubble.

Motivated by an intense desire for expansion and a relentless pursuit of glory, Rome once again turns its attention to conquest, propelled by the timeless ambition to expand its rule over new lands and peoples. While Rome has long dominated much of modern-day Italy, the island of Sicily remains a coveted prize, firmly under Carthaginian control. Undeterred, Rome seizes the opportunity to challenge Carthage's hold on the island, propelled by a relentless pursuit of territorial expansion and influence. However, facing the formidable might of Carthage's military and navy, Rome confronts an immense obstacle. As the clash with Carthage looms, it falls upon the Delegates to navigate the tumultuous waters of the Punic War era, devising strategies to subdue Carthaginian forces and assert Rome's supremacy over the Mediterranean. Forward, in the name of Rome, victory and glory await!
